Methamphetamine: Facts, Dangers and Approaches to Treatment
This in-depth program discusses what methamphetamine is, how it is used, and both the long and short term effects on users and addicts. The program also examines how different types of meth labs are constructed and their respective dangers to parole and probation officers, whether officers are conducting a home contact or a search. The program also examines the five (5) stage cycle of meth abuse and examines “best practices” in treating methamphetamine addiction. It details the effects of meth on the brain, which makes meth so addictive. Additional topics examined include:
- Scope of abuse in the U.S.
- Medical complications.
- Children of meth users.
- How to identify meth and meth labs, and the various steps in making meth.
- The hazards posed by the various ingredients used in meth production.
- Addiction treatment: What works with offenders.
- The 13 principles of effective treatment.
- Does mandated treatment work?

In addition to the information outlined above, participants are provided more in-depth instruction on the safety issues of dealing with methamphetamine abusers and those that manufacture meth. Also, participants are provided a CD with handout materials, a lesson plan with corresponding PowerPoint Program, and videos to use in their training.
